After joining the European Union in July 2013, the Port of Rijeka Authority continues to use EU funds to participate in new projects as a partner or to actively prepare and apply new project proposals to calls published by the European Commission.

    NAPA STUDIES

Through the activities of the North Adriatic Ports Association (NAPA), the Port of Rijeka Authority acts as the leader of a project called “Development of the multimodal connection of ports in the North Adriatic and their successful integration into the central network – NAPA studies”. The partners in this NAPA project are the Venice Port Authority, the Trieste Port Authority, the Port of Koper, Aspo di Chioggia, Sistemi Territoriali, the Mantova Region, the University of Trieste, the Institute of Traffic and Transport Ljubljana, the Central European Initiative (CEI) and Ministry of Transport of Italy (RAM), while the Port of Rijeka Authority’s partner from Croatia is company HŽ Infrastruktura. The project is supported with 50 percent of funding in the amount of 2,8 million EUR. In addition to the reconstruction of Brajdica, through the elaboration of the NAPA studies it is also planned to develop a project for the construction of the Rijeka railway cargo station as part of the strategic project of the new container terminal on the Zagreb Pier.

    ITS ADRIATIC MULTI-PORT GATEWAY

The European Union assessed the NAPA’s project “ITS Adriatic multi-port gateway” as very significant for the potential of port infrastructures and services of European markets, thus providing the NAPA ports with funding of 1,442,500 EUR at the European Union’s tender for co-financing development projects in the TEN-T fund (European Transport Network). Co-petitiveness (co-operation and competitiveness) will in the future favour the creating of a unique information platform which will manage the services intended for the Far East, Central and Eastern European markets. The project will last 30 months and the expected implementation deadline is 30 June 2013. The extension of the port community system will also impact the Port of Rijeka Authority, a member participating in this project as an observer until the Republic of Croatia becomes a member of the European Union.

    COSTA II EAST POSEIDON MED

The members of the NAPA joined the project “COSTA II East Poseidon MED” approved by the EC Decision of 5 December 2014. With a total of 14 partners (port authorities, shipping companies, operators) from the eastern Mediterranean, the project involved studies that analyse the state of supply of ships and other consumers of alternative energy (LNG, etc.) in East Mediterranean ports. The project is worth a total of 5.126.000 EUR while the TEN-T fund’s share is 50% (without VAT).
