Arrival of new ship-to-shore cranes at the Rijeka Gateway container terminal

    On Thursday, 17 October 2024, at 10:00 a.m., two new STS (ship-to-shore) container cranes, which arrived at the Port of Rijeka two days earlier, were presented at the Rijeka Gateway container terminal.
    Newly acquired cranes are part of the investment of the concessionaire Rijeka Gateway d.o.o. within Phase 1, the value of which is EUR 200 million, and includes the construction of infrastructure and the procurement of container cranes (STS, RTG, RMG). Construction work began in September 2023, and the delivery and installation of equipment is currently underway.

    The total investment of the concessionaire Rijeka Gateway Ltd. in the construction of infrastructure and equipment at the new container terminal amounts to GBP 380 million, and it will be realised through two phases. The first phase includes an investment of GBP 200 million and will be completed by the end of 2025, and the second phase includes an investment of GBP 180 million in the construction and equipping of a new coastline in the length of 280 meters and will be realised in the next 10 years.

    New cranes and the technical details of the new equipment were presented today by the President of the Management Board of Rijeka Gateway, Mr. Peter Corfitsen, Member of the Management Board of Rijeka Gateway Mr. Tomislav Rosandić, Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, Mr. Denis Vukorepa and the head of the implementation of the Rijeka Gateway project, Mr. Albert Lopez Asensio.

    The new Rijeka Gateway container terminal will be the most modern and sustainable terminal in this part of Europe. The total investment in the construction and development of the new container terminal in the Port of Rijeka amounts to approximately €600 million, and includes investments of the Port of Rijeka Authority of €106.7 million in the construction of 400 metres of coastline with the hinterland, €31.6 million for the project of construction of a new intermodal terminal in the joint implementation of the Port of Rijeka Authority and HŽ Infrastruktura, €70 million for the project of the new D-403 road construction carried out by Hrvatske ceste and €4.5 million investment of the Port of Rijeka Authority in the construction of an internal port road connecting the port with the state road DC 403.
