Completed project “Upgrade of the Rijeka Port infrastructure – AGCT dredging of the southern pier at the Adriatic Gate container terminal” (POR2CORE-AGCT Dredging)

    October 30, 2024

The project “Upgrade of the Rijeka Port infrastructure – AGCT dredging of the southern pier at the Adriatic Gate container terminal” (POR2CORE-AGCT Dredging) was applied for co-financing by the Port of Rijeka Authority at the invitation of the European CEF Blending Fund within the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The total estimated value of the project is EUR 17,389,436.25 including VAT (EUR 13,911,549.00 + VAT EUR 3,477,877.25). 20 % of the project value is co-financed by grants and the remaining 80% of the estimated value of the project is financed by the earmarked funds of the Port of Rijeka Authority.
After the public procurement procedure, the contract for the execution of works was signed on June 18, 2020, with the company NUOVA CO. ED. MAR S.r.l. (Italy).
The works began on August 24, 2020, and ended on September 24, 2024. The technical inspection was carried out on October 22, 2024, and the issuance of the use permit is in progress.
The project included works on dredging the seabed in the length of 100 meters along the coastal wall of the southern pier at the Adriatic Gate container terminal. In the intake zone, the depth of the sea along the coastal wall has been increased from 11.6 meters to 16.5 meters. With the implementation of this project, the depth of the sea along the entire 428 m length of the operational coast of the Kostrena Pier South has been equalised to 14.88 meters. This enables the reception of large container ships along the operational coast in the full length, thus there is no more need for their mooring on the buoy.
