Completion of the pilot activity for the installation of led lightning at the Rijeka Breakwater

A pilot activity of the project SUSPORT for the installation of LED lighting at the Rijeka breakwater were completed at the beginning of August 2022. The project is co-financed by the European Union funds from the SUSPORT project co-financed by 85% from the Interreg Italy – Croatia program, and 15% from the Port of Rijeka Authority’s own budget. The Port of Rijeka Authority signed the contract for the procurement and installation of LED lighting at the Rijeka Breakwater worth HRK 1,384,198.75 including VAT in February 7th, 2022 with the company Elektro-energetika Ltd, Zagreb. The works were carried out in several phases including the replacement of poles and the installation of LED lighting in a length of approx. 1700 meters.

The entire Rijeka breakwater is now equipped with ecologically sustainable and energy-efficient public lighting that ensures minimal electricity consumption, low maintenance costs and minimal CO2 emissions. In addition, the favorite citizens´promenade is lit by the new glow in its entire length, and gives the passenger port and the center of Rijeka a new perspective from land and sea. This is another project of the Port of Rijeka Authority that was co-financed with EU funds and completed within the agreed deadlines. In the project SUSPORT, Interreg Italy – Croatia, the total budget of the Rijeka Port Authority amounts to EUR 440,000.00 (approx. HRK 3,319,000.00). In addition to the Rijeka Breakwater lighting project, the Port of Rijeka Authority plans to use funds from the SUSPORT program in 2022 for the purchase of an electric vehicle and the installation of a charging station for electric cars at the beginning of the Rijeka Breakwater. The Port of Rijeka Authority continues with investments in the development of the passenger/nautical port in the center of Rijeka and other facilities important to the citizens and visitors of Rijeka for a smooth and safe access to the port area and the sea.
