Contract signed for the study project documentation of the Prague Pier Extension project
On January 9, 2023, the Port of Rijeka Authority signed the Contract for the preparation of study-project documentation for the extension of the Prague Pier. The contract was signed with the Joint venture of RIJEKAPROJEKT Ltd from Rijeka and OPUSGEO Ltd from Zagreb.
The value of the Contract is EUR 2,460,349.06 including VAT (EUR 1,968,279.25 + EUR 492,069.81 VAT) and includes the following services:
- creation of conceptual solution and Environmental Impact Study,
- implementation of geodetic and geotechnical investigation works,
- preparation of the conceptual project,
- creation of the Main Project,
- preparation of cost estimates and tender documentation for works on the extension of the Prague pier.
The preparation of study-project documentation for the extension of the Prague Pier in the Rijeka Basin is co-financed with funds from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) with a non-refundable share of 50%. The project will prepare all the necessary technical documentation and carry out all the administrative procedures necessary for obtaining construction permits for the execution of works on the extension of the Prague pier. The works include the construction of a new 345 m long waterfront that will connect the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal and the Visin pier, as well as the reconstruction of the waterfront into a new operational area of about 50,000 m2 in its hinterland.
The extension of the Prague Pier will result in a new multi-purpose terminal in the Rijeka Basin with a sea depth of 20 m along the pier wall. The construction and arrangement of new operating areas will achieve the maximum utilization of the port area in this part of the port and ensure the conditions for transport and storage of significantly larger quantities of various types of general cargo.
The Prague Pier extension project is a continuation of large infrastructure projects related to the ongoing projects in Rijeka Basin. During 2023, the construction of the new state road DC 403 will be completed, the construction of the new connecting road in the hinterland of the Prague Pier will be completed, as well as the project for the reconstruction of pavement and storage areas, tracks, crane tracks and the accompanying communal infrastructure at the Prague, Budapest and Vienna Piers, as well as the Visin, Orlando and De Franceschi jetty, which is co-financed from the Connecting European Facility program.
The value of currently active investments related to the Rijeka Basin, including the Contract signed today for the preparation of study-project documentation for the extension of Prague Pier, amounts to EUR 110.624 million.
The Prague Pier extensionn project as a whole ensures the preconditions for a new traffic solution in this part of the city by effectively connecting city and port roads with state road DC 403. The new traffic solution includes the extension of the Street Riva to the west, the construction of a road connection to Prague Pier and a connection to the new port road which will provide direct access to the western exit to the Rijeka bypass via DC 403.
Another important component of the project is port warehouses 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22, which are located in the immediate vicinity of the Prague Pier, and are registered in the Register of Protected Cultural Properties of the Republic of Croatia. Warehouse 22 is included in the concession at the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal, and the concessionaire will into its business headquarters in the coming period. After the completion of the expansion of the Prague Pier, the well-known Metropolis warehouse complex (port warehouses 18, 19, 20 and 21) is separated from the port area and becomes a publicly accessible industrial heritage free for into various urban facilities.
In conclusion, the Prague Pier extension project is of great importance for the development of the port area in the Rijeka Basin, but it is equally important for the citizens of Rijeka and the wider social community.
