On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Port of Rijeka Authority was visited by H.E. Ms. Nathalie Rayes, Ambassador of the United States of America and a trade delegation from Los Angeles.
As part of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Port of Rijeka Authority and the Port of Los Angeles, the largest port in the United States of America. The Memorandum was signed by the Deputy Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles Stakeholders Engagement, Mr. David Libatique, and the Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, Mr. Denis Vukorepa.
The Memorandum is a basis for strengthening business cooperation between the signatory ports and exchanging best practices in the sustainable development of port systems. This particularly applies to joint efforts in creating strategies for improving port infrastructure, port operations, improving environmental measures and expanding trade opportunities.
The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest container port in North America and has been the top U.S. port for more than two decades with record container trade volumes. The Port maintains an efficient, sustainable supply chain, adopting new technologies to improve the reliability, predictability, and efficiency of cargo traffic in global maritime trade. At the end of the program, H.E. Ms. Nathalie Rayes and a trade delegation from the City and Port of Los Angeles visited the new Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal.
