Samsung SDI to sign the contract with AGCT/ICTSI
The PPD transport trains will transit 5280 tons of cargo owned by South Korea’s Samsung SDI on a monthly basis from the container terminal Adriatic Gate to Hungary. Companies Maersk Line, Adriatic Gate and PPD transport are about to sign a contract for storage and transport of parts of the plant for the new Samsung SDI electric car battery factory.
Samsung SDI has recently started developing as a Samsung company that produces various types of batteries. In Hungary, they opened the first factory for electric cars in 2017, and is currently in the process of building another factory. Port of Rijeka proved to be their choice for the fastest and easiest transport on the construction site.
Their interest was also recognized by Maersk Line and PPD transport by signing a contract for co-operation for the carriage of goods from the Rijeka port in Hungary in early 2018, and the first block train started in April. The test phase of the project with several runs to Hungary has been successfully achieved. The regular establishment of this kind of transport would trigger a serious development of intermodal service for Central Europe. One train from Rijeka in Hungary would be transporting one train with 55 containers, each filled with 24 tons of goods, and the first train from Rijeka should be launched by the end of this month. Transportation for Samsung is planned for at least one year.
