The final conference of the project
“Upgrade of the port of Rijeka infrastructure – Terminal for bulk cargo Bakar”
On December 21, 2021, the final conference of the project “Upgrade of the port of Rijeka infrastructure – Terminal for Bulk Cargo Bakar” officially ended this important infrastructure project co-financed from the program Connecting European Facility (CEF) established for additional investments in the construction of new and improvement of existing transport infrastructure.
The project was presented by Mr. Duško Grabovac, President of the Management Board of the Port of Rijeka j.s.c., Mr. Vojko Kocijan, Head of the Department for Development and Projects at the Port of Rijeka Authority and Mr. Vedran Blažević, project manager of the Port of Rijeka j.s.c.
The final conference of the project was also attended by Ms. Susana Forjan, CINEA project manager at the European Commission, who expressed satisfaction with the successful implementation of the project.
As part of the conference, there were presentations about the activities carried out on the reconstruction of traffic areas and tracks in the area of the bulk cargo terminal in Bakar. This project has improved the efficiency of cargo handling in the Bakar port basin and enabled better connection with the Trans-European Transport Network.
The general objectives of the project were achieved by reconstruction of tracks, traffic and storage areas and supporting communal infrastructure in the area of bulk cargo terminal Podbok – Bakar basin, while improving the connection of the entire basin with the railway network in the hinterland railway infrastructure.
The works were implemented in the amount of HRK 48,494,157.43 (including VAT), of which 85% was insured from the Financial Instrument for Connecting Europe (CEF). The contract for the execution of works was signed on 14 February 2020 between the Port of Rijeka d.d. and GP Krk d.d., Colas Rail Croatia and Colas Rail SAS.
Mr. Duško Grabovac, President of the Management Board of the Port of Rijeka j.s.c. pointed out that the implementation of this project removed the current infrastructure constraints: “Modernization of infrastructure in accordance with European standards will enable the Port of Rijeka better regional and international connectivity, greater operability and quality of services.”
Representatives of the contractor Mr. Tihomir Ranđelović, member of the Management Board of GP Krk and Mr. Zdravko Sršić, Deputy Director of the Construction Sector of GP Krk d.d. They thanked all the representatives of the working groups of the Port of Rijeka Authority, the Port of Rijeka d.d., and other stakeholders who enabled the successful implementation of all contracted activities for their successful cooperation and efficient organization in the execution of works.
